About Eyewitness

INTRODUCTION

I am a documentary filmmaker based in Aveiro, Portugal.

Eyewitness is my portfolio site and an alterative publishing site for my work, including documentary films and photography plus other non-fiction videos.

See the links in the menu and at the bottom of this page for my YouTube channel, Instagram, and digital business card.

I’ve worked as a documentary producer, director, and cinematographer. I’m a member of the Board of Directors of Carbon Trace Productions — a non-profit documentary film studio I co-founded in 2017. I continue to work with Carbon Trace as needed. I am also producing non-fiction video of all kinds under my personal brands — Eyewitness and The Rhetorica Network.

I am an Emeritus Professor of media and journalism at Missouri State University. I taught courses in documentary filmmaking, mobile/online journalism, and media ethics.

Current Projects

“Trinity” – This documentary short is in post production now. My plan is to finish the film this spring. Trinity is a highly personal, experimental, and esoteric (road) trip examining the current crisis era in the United States in the context of arguably the culminating event of the last crisis era, the detonation of the first atomic bomb. The film draws heavily on the theory of generational personality as explained in the book “Generations: The History of America’s Future, 1584 to 2069” by Strauss & Howe.

Untitled back-to-the-land documentary film – This feature length film, directed by Denise Vaughn, examines the history of the 1970s back-to-the-land movement in the Missouri Ozarks. I am the project cinematographer and  post-production consultant. We wrapped production in late fall 2022.
